Iconator.com was a place to share and download icons, avatars and wallpapers. These smaller icons were mainly used for AIM and declined in popularity over time in favour of 100x100 icons or avatars which you could use on LiveJournal or Myspace. I really like these smaller icons and haven't seen them on any other sites.
Each icon is linked to the orginal posting and on hover you can see the original name of the icon - feel free to use as you wish as Iconator is long dead and the people who made the icons probably don't know they are still on the internet!
100x100 Avatars:
As computer resolutions got bigger, icons could be larger and more detailed, and so the 100x100 avatar was created. Thanks to active sites like glittergraphics (even though they have an ai art section now, EW) much of these have been preserved and you have probably seen them being used on peoples sites today.
