Nirvanna The Band

is a fictional band created by

Matt Johnson and Jay McCarroll.

The first installment of the NTB universe is the web-series,

Nirvana The Band The Show

, that was created from 2007-2009 with a bonus episode being released in 2010. The web-series follows the lives of Matt and Jay as they try to book their band a show at

The Rivoli

, a music venue in Toronto.

(If you haven't seen it yet the humour in the web-series is incredibly '2007' edgy , proceed with caution.)

Ten years since the first episode of the web-series, Matt and Jay returned on to TV with the similarly titled

Nirvanna The Band The Show.

The TV series follows the same plot but on a larger scale and with even more insane antics. The show ran for two seasons and ended in 2018 when their production company, Viceland Canada went under.

(although there is evidence to suggest a third season was filmed).

In 2021 Matt and Jay were back on our screens with the animated mini-series

Matt & Bird Break Loose.

Fortunately for us, it wouldn't be too long until we saw NTB again. Nirvanna The Band returned in 2025 with the premier of the aptly titled

Nirvanna The Band The Movie.

The film premired at SXSW in March and should hopefully be getting an international release at some point!
